Trying Not to Die Just Yet

Digital readout of blood pressure display showing 146 over 91

Last Tuesday I got a headache at about 2pm. It was pretty bad and somewhat notable because I am not terribly prone to headaches. The following day the same thing happened. And now every day for a week.

My Google search suggests that many people develop headache patterns mapped to their circadian rhythm. Good to know that I’m not alone and probably not dying, but all the same, I could do without it.

Stress seems to be the largest culprit of such things, and I’ve had my fair share lately. It seems my dread about returning to my former employer is impacting me more than I would have imagined.

The cherry on top is that my blood pressure is also consistently high (and I’m already on medication for it). As soon as I get confirmation of my new insurance benefits, I will shoot my doctor a message to ask, “Hey, how worried should we be about this?” (I’ve seen it go as high as 151/100, but it sounds like you don’t need to call an ambulance until you’re consistently in the 180s).

All of this is to say that I’m taking a step back from a lot of things. I’m going to try and stop checking LinkedIn everyday and put off the continued search for a UX job until it feels right. I’m bringing all my side hustles to an end that aren’t primarily rooted in personal enjoyment. I’ve already started taking walks for a minimum of 20 minutes and once that insurance goes through I’ll look at gyms again.

This past weekend my buddy Jared stopped by to help me figure out some potential drum parts. I’m hoping to have some published music on most available streaming platforms by July 31.

Basically I’m going to try to cut back on stress and get healthy. And when I purchase materials to build my front steps, I might get a few extra boards to close up my backyard fence and get a dog.
