"A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one."
— English Proverb

Whether you need a simple design for a digital file, or the creation of several physical assets from the ground up, please reach out. Below is a small sampling of services I have completed. I'm looking forward to building a custom guitar for your kid's graduation or a garden water fountain to commemorate your wedding anniversary. A little less fun than pure art, graphic design has a lot more rules of thumb to follow, but still benefits from a creative eye. Some of the graphic design projects I've worked on include:

  • Album covers
  • Book covers
  • Venue Posters
  • Logos
  • Video editing
  • Business Cards
  • Advertisements

It costs nothing to introduce yourself.

"Hi. My name is John."

See? Nothing to it.

Web Building/Design

If you’re in business you need a webpage. A Linktree is not sufficient. At the very least you should have a landing page that displays your hours and how to contact you.

I have built pages from scratch, used frameworks, used Content Mangement Systems (eg. WordPress), and web builders like Webflow and Framer. I've used a variety of hosting services and domain name registrars.

User Exeperience & Service Design

UX and Service is the problem solving that gets into the nitty gritty of your business, service, or digital application. Design disciplines cover a wide range of products and services from developing mobile applications to figuring out why your forklift drivers keep blowing stop signs.

I employ the use of research methods such a competitive analysis, user surveys, interviews with users and Subjet Matter Experts (SMEs), contextual inquiries, field studies, A/B testing and heuristic evaluations. There is no one size fits all solution.

UX and Service Design has something in common with advertising: Almost business could benefit from it, but few people know how to employ it correctly and even fewer want to spend money on it. However, good design can improve conversion rates, costs savings, employee retention, and user loyalty. The most touted statistic on ROI regarding UX design is that every $1 spent on design can return $100 through cost savings and increased sales.

I love working on UX, but it is a commitment. Let me know if you're ready.

The worst thing I can do is say no.

    "NO!"

And it almost certainly won't be that aggressive.

Let me reject your project proposal today.

    Clients

Here are some of the fine people and businesses I've had the privelege to work with:

    Pete's Place Poster

    Event Poster Design and Print

Before leaving DeKalb for the bright lights of Milwaukee, local musican Peter Lindsey established a pop-up venue downtown to host shows and open mics for the local music scene. We collaborated on a quick 2-color silkscreen print that was sold at the first big booking. It showcased the bands and the venue and provided a revenue stream for a project on a shoestring budget.

    Catlin Park Maps

    Catlin Park Trail Map

Catlin Park is a 333-acre nature preserve in LaSalle County, IL. For 20+ years their only map on site was a hand painted map by a Boy Scout troop that wasn't totally accurate and didn't reflect the many changes made to the trail system over the years.

In 2023, working with the park director we accurately mapped out all the trails using GPS. I devised trail keys that were unique both in color and dashed pattern to be accessible to those with color blindness. A digital map was made for people to download with information about the park on the reverse side. Their hand drawn logo was updated to a vector format to be used in a variety of signage and marking materials.

Currently we are discussing plans to update the map for 2026 to reflect upgrades to the park and create physical maps for people to use throughout the park.

    The Shifties Record Album Cover

    shifties_front

The Shifties is a rock group out of Chicago, Illinois. Their drummer was familiar with my work and recommened me to help design their new record album cover.

They had some loose ideas, but not quite the tools and know how to execute them. I refined their image files, laid out the text, and submitted the final artwork to Smashed Plastic who pressed the record and printed the cover.

I would love to work with more indie bands! If the project is interesting enough I can be flexible with my pricing.

    Sweet Life Garden Group Website

    sweetlifelogo_square

Since 2023 I have been building and maintaining the Sweet Life Garden Group website. They are local non-profit centered on community gardening. When we first started it was a simple WordPress website.

Since then I have upgraded it to use the Semplice theme and I also provide hosting for the organization. I'm currently fine tuning some updates there now and you can visit them at www.sweetlifegardengroup.org

    PedTerra Shoes

    Corporate Logo Design

PedTerra Shoes is an online shoe retailer of open toe box shoes. I was approached to help provide a logo for their website. Instead of using an off the shelf font, they were interested in having a custom look to their wordmark.

There are some things that I would personally change about this logo, but it is most important to me that the customer is happy. They approached me in 2019 while doing business under a different name. After a competing trademark necessitated a change, I updated the wordmark in 2020. They have been using the same logo since then.

If I cannot do what you need, I'm very likely to know someone who can.

    Let's talk.
